Sunthorn Phu Day 2023 (Thai Language Day)

  


   June 26th of every year is the important day in Thailand to memorized the best well-known royal poet in the Rattanakosin era in the reign of King Rama II. Thai people especially Thai students have to learn his poem lesson at the school.


     Phra Sunthornwohan, known as Sunthorn Phu was born on June 16, 1786 - 1855. He is career as a royal poet began in the reign of King Rama II. And when the King died, he resigned from the role to become a monk for  20 years. Then, in the reign of King Rama III, he returned to court as a royal scribe, where he remained for the rest of his life.    


     Sunthron Phu was renowned for composing verse, and his epic poetry was popular in Thailand to the present day. His works include Nirat Phu Khao Thong, a collection of poems recounting his journey to the Golden Mountain; Nirat Suphan, his journey to Suphanburi Province; and the Phra Aphai Mani Saga.

     

     Sunthron Phu was left behind a legacy of poems that have become very famous over time because his written was described Thai history.
